Meet Our Director
My name is Shelly Allen, and I am the Center Director for The Learning Tree of Elgin West! I have been working at the center for 35 years – children I had in my very first preschool class are now bringing their children to our school. My passion and love for children is what keeps me doing this job every day! I am involved with the Elgin Partnership for Early Learning Program as well as working with our local High School and Community College to support new teachers in the field. I am committed to developing teachers who love teaching, so that they can teach children to love learning. I was raised in the Elgin area and currently reside in South Elgin. I enjoy spending time with my husband and two grown children. My favorite place outside of Elgin West to be is on a beach with a good book.
Meet Our Assistant Director
Hello, my name is Michelle Samsula, and I am currently the Assistant Director at The Learning Tree Elgin West. I have been working in the field of early childhood education since 2008, holding various roles throughout my career. I began as a student intern at my community college’s lab school and later completed my degree and certifications to become director-qualified.
Working with children has always been my passion, and I feel fortunate to be part of so many families’ journeys. The innocence and creativity of children brings me such joy, and I love watching each student grow and thrive! As someone who grew up on the far west side of Elgin, it has been exciting to watch the town grow and evolve into the vibrant community it is today. I currently live in Cary, Illinois with my husband and daughter who keep me busy! When it’s time for a refresh, I enjoy spending time at the beach, reading and relaxing.
